Our Purpose

Our Mission & Vision

We exist to defend the rights of refugees, protect children, and ensure every woman in Rajasthan can claim her rights and live with dignity.

Our Mission

Empowering the Persecuted, Uplifting the Community

Universal Just Action Society (UJAS) is a non-governmental organization based in Jodhpur, India. It is synonymous with the widely known community-based organization, Seemant Lok Sangathan.

UJAS advocates for Pakistani immigrants in India who are fleeing religious persecution. Despite escaping dangers in Pakistan, they are still denied basic human rights in India. Among these are the rights to citizenship, rehabilitation, livelihood, and education.

UJAS’ mission is to aid Pakistani refugees in obtaining justice by raising awareness, empowering refugee communities, and pressuring the government to provide them with legal rights. Ultimately, our work is dedicated to the mutual upliftment and prosperity of both the refugee and host communities.

What We Set Out To Do

Our Strategic Objectives

Five goals that guide every campaign, every legal case, every community meeting.

🏠

Refugee Rights & Citizenship

Secure legal identity and citizenship rights for Hindu minority refugees from Pakistan. Provide documentation, legal aid, and advocacy to make India truly home for those who fled persecution.

🧒

End Child Labour

Remove children from hazardous work environments, enroll them in schools, and support families so they do not need to send children to work.

👩

Empower Women

Mobilise women's collectives, run legal awareness campaigns, support land rights claims, and fight gender-based violence through community action.

🧵

Build Sustainable Livelihoods

Train women artisans in traditional Rajasthani crafts and connect them to fair trade markets through the UJAS Crafts Center.

🌱

Advance Climate Justice

Advocate for climate adaptation policies that protect marginalized communities most impacted by drought, desertification, and heat stress in Rajasthan.

How We Work

Our Programmes

Each programme is designed to address a root cause of injustice — not just its symptoms.

⚖️

Legal Aid & Liberation

Direct field intervention, case documentation, legal representation, and coordination with district authorities for human rights cases, citizenship claims and child protection.

📢

Campaigns & Advocacy

Public hearings (Jan Sunwaai), rallies, petitions, and engagement with lawmakers to create systemic change in policy and enforcement.

🤝

Community Organising

Building women's self-help groups and community vigilance committees that sustain the movement from the grassroots up.

🧵

Livelihoods & Shelter

Handicraft and embroidery centres for Pakistani women migrants, funded by District Industrial Center. Five shelter homes operated 2015–2023 for the most vulnerable families.

📚

Research & Documentation

Rigorous fieldwork that produces evidence-based reports, survivor testimonies, and policy briefs for national advocacy.

🌿

Climate Resilience

Community adaptation programmes and climate justice campaigns protecting those on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
